About Patricia Harrelson
I am a retired community college English teacher who has been writing and editing for over 30 years. When meeting me, I hope you will leave your stereotypes about English teachers at the door. I’m not the person you remember from your school days. Meet me with curiosity and you will no doubt be surprised and pleased.
The Editeyes blog focuses on writing related issues, in particular taking a lighthearted look at the idiosyncrasies of grammar, style, and vocabulary with the intention of quashing the idea that there is a “right way” to write. I also consider relationships among writers, for example focusing on the manner in which we assess other’s work either as readers or more directly as critics.
Other pages on this website promote my freelance writing business and my books.
In my freelance business, my aim is to make the process easy and and the product representative of you and your business or publication. When I help a client with a project, I expect to be handed a pile of wonderful ideas that need to be shaped into a professional presentation. Because I’m an active listener, pay attention to details, and have a collaborative attitude, I can weave a collection of ideas into a satisfying product. (See Writing Services )
My book, Between Two Women, is a creative endeavor that explores why I turned away from a long-held heterosexual identity. The book takes a unique approach to memoir using a style that was cultivated at Antioch University where I earned my MFA in Creative Writing with concentrations in Non-fiction & Poetry. I also am applying that style to a project of co-authorship with Julia Rhodes on a book called The Right Sisters: Women Inventors Tell Their Stories.
I have taught creative writing workshops through Columbia College, the Central Sierra Arts Council, and the Sierra Waldorf School. I also write theater reviews and feature articles for the Sonora Union Democrat and have published essays and poems in literary magazines, including Manzanita, Tiny Lights, and Penumbra.
If you have a project in mind, I’d like to hear from you.
